Thread: Open-Ended Computer Question

Open-Ended Computer Question by Anonymous
Dear Webmaster,
What is your opinion on websites using the www subdomain for their webserver?
Also, what would you think of a website using *.www.domain.tld in their URL, such as server2.www.example.org instead of server2.example.org. I've never actually seen this deployed, but I wonder what you would think.
Sincerely, Anonymous

Not that I am the admin/webmaster of this thing, but would something like www.server2.server.tld a bit too long for a url?

Hello hi webmistress here very late!!

On one hand the www. format makes sense in terms of delegating a specific service to a specific subdomain, but HTTP has become so much the default that I think it looks better to omit it. I've had www. set up to redirect to root for as long as I've been managing servers but it is definitely something I've thought about. I think I came to this because I also think the aesthetics of URLs are very important, plus you can CNAME www to @ in DNS records, but not the other way around since @ can't be a CNAME.
